Description

It is said that the squash blossom has early influences in both non-Native American and Native American cultures.  The Naja of the squash blossom is said to replicate the iron ornaments on the horse bridles of the Spanish Conquistadors in the late 1500s to early 1600s.  The silver beads on the necklace were introduced around 1800.  In 1938 it was mentioned that the Navajo and Zuni beads were representative to the Spanish-Mexican trouser and jacket ornaments that resembled the pomegranate.  The necklace is Navajo in origin, however, the addition of turquoise on each of the blossoms was done by the Zuni--which was later adopted by the Navajo.
