Juan Tafoya (1949-2006) was a San Ildefonso Pueblo potter. Juan started experimenting with firing techniques in order to achieve the brown/black combination as well as experimenting with the use of turquoise on his pots. Juan was an active pottery maker for over 36 years before his premature death at 57 years old.
This particular piece was made in 1987 and is 4" tall; 2" at the base; and 5 1/2" across. The two pieces of turquoise measure at 3mm X 3mm.
